The Alberto Longo farm has an area of 35 hectares of vineyards: 8 hectares around the “Fattoria Cavalli” in the “Cacc’e Mmitte di Lucera” DOC territory and the remaining near the seventeenth-century Masseria Celentano. The 27 hectares of vineyards located in front of the Masseria are planted with such native vines as Negroamaro, Montepulciano, Falanghina and Nero di Troia and another international varieties like Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc. They are all grown in a spurred cordon system, according to modern and strict production rules such as high density of vines per hectare with a very small yield of grapes per plant.
The winery is located in Lucera at a nineteenth century farm that Alberto Longo chose as the main office and restored with the aim of producing high quality wines while offering a professional welcome. Manuscripts in the company show that the old cellar of the Cavalli, a major family of Lucera, was located in this spot. In storage cellars that once contained wheat, high-tech equipment that can monitor and manage every stage of production, from fermentation to bottling, are now kept. There is a striking barrel room where light, temperature and humidity are controlled to ensure optimal conditions for wine aging. Outside is the charming landscape of the Castle of Lucera, and rows of Falanghina, Montepulciano, Nero di Troia and Bombino Bianco, which tell the story of this extraordinary area. An oak of the thirteenth century, among the trees cataloged by WWF, overlooks the winery and vineyard with its majestic branches.
